About Us

Home > Our School > About Us

Lower Dauphin High School was built in 1960 and was completely renovated in 1995. Construction work was completed in 2003 which added a two-story classroom wing and expanded the cafeteria and band room. Enrollment at our high school was 1,308 at the end of the 2003-04 school year. However, the district administration and school board have worked together with our faculty to keep class sizes at a level which ensures invidivualized attention for all students.

Foundations of our High School Program
Our students take classes for eight periods every day in a six-day cycle. Within the six-day cycle, students take physical education three times a cycle all four years of high school. Alternating with physical education, ninth-grade students take environmental science and tenth-grade students take both Career Explorations and Highway Safety, each for half the year. Eleventh-grade students must take health class, alternating with physical education.

Our academic day begins at 7:34 am and runs until 2:30 pm. Office hours are from 7:00am to 3:45pm.

Grading Scales and Course Levels
Our High School curriculum is offered at 'levels' to suit the abilities and academic needs of all of our students. English courses are offered at general, career, college preparatory and honors levels.,  Math, science and social studies courses are offered at general, college preparatory, and honors levels. We also offer a gifted curriculum that has special criteria for participation and there is an extensive Advanced Placement program available in all academic departments, as well as, the art department.

  • A=90-100%
  • B=80-89%
  • C=70-79%
