Curriculum Guide
Course Title: Health Careers Subject: Business Grade Level(s): 11 Synopsis of CurriculumThis program allows high school students the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals in a real-work environment and to explore various healthcare professions. HCEP is a partnership of the Pennsylvania State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and College of Medicine (PSHMC/COM), Lower Dauphin School District and Derry Township School District.
PREREQUISITE: Students are required to go through an application process in the spring of their junior year; this program will be scheduled during Periods 3-4 with lunch during Lunch A.
This program will introduce ten selected senior students each year to a variety of areas at the Hershey Medical Center. The HCEP (Healthcare Career Exploration Program) program allows high school seniors the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals in a real-world environment and to explore various healthcare professions. Students who have demonstrated an interest in medical, science and related careers are targeted for this senior program. Students must apply and be accepted into this program. During the 1st semester, students will rotate through various departments at Hershey Medical Center from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Monday-Thursday. Seminars will be held on Fridays at the hospital. During the 2nd semester, students will gain an in-depth experience in several clinical areas at the Hershey Medical Center. Seniors will select two clinical areas of interest where they are supervised by a preceptor for the 3rd and 4th Marking Periods. Near the end of the school year, students will present a senior project at Hershey Medical Center. A portfolio will provide the supportive evidence for the grade.
