Food services in the Lower Dauphin School District are provided by an independent contractor, Chartwells, a division of the Compass Group-USA. For more information about cafeteria services in the Lower Dauphin School District, please contact our Food Service Director Brad Mettle at 717-566-5353 or via email at bmettle@ldsd.org.
The school provides the service of a hot lunch each day. Milk is offered with every meal for 60 cents a la carte and is included in the meal price.
** NEW FOR THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR **

We are pleased to inform you that Lower Dauphin School District will be participating in a federal program to enable ALL enrolled students to receive a free nutritional breakfast and lunch each school day.

This program, called Seamless Summer Option, was included in waivers issued by the USDA in April 2021 to allow all students, regardless of need, to receive free breakfast and lunch during the school year.

Please note that the free option only applies to the Class A breakfast and lunch on the menu. A la carte items or the purchase of a second meal will be charged at regular prices.

No further action is required of you to obtain these benefits. However, if you qualify, we still encourage you to complete a free and reduced meal application for a number of reasons:

    • Help your family receive the Commonwealth funding through the p-EBT benefits
    • Help your family receive free internet access
    • Help the District receive federal funding
    • Your status will continue 30 days into the 2022-23 school year

The Free and Reduced Meal online application for the 2021-22 school year is available at www.schoolcafe.com and you should have received one from your child’s school. If you have already received notification of Direct Certification for the 2021-22 school year, you do not need to apply again.

Please note that your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without paying a fee or submitting an application.

If we can be of any further assistance, please contact your Child's School office.

The cost of an elementary school lunch this year is as follows:
    • Student meal $2.60
    • Adult meals $3.70

The cost of a secondary level school lunch this year is as follows:

    • Student meal $2.80
    • Adult meals $3.70

In addition to the lunch program, we offer a breakfast program at all of the Lower Dauphin School Districts schools. All the breakfast programs are planned within the guidelines of the requirements established by the federal government and are eligible for the free and reduced program described below.

The cost of the breakfast program this year is as follows:
    • Student breakfast: $1.30
The district uses a computerized account system for food purchases. It is requested that students pay for a week or more of their lunches and/or breakfasts in advance. Students are assigned PIN numbers that track purchases against their available balances. The PIN numbers and advance payments reduce the time students spend in the cafeteria line.

Meals are planned within the guidelines of the Type "A" lunch requirements established by the federal government. We encourage children to get the full value of the balanced meal by eating their complete lunch. However, we never force a child to eat everything on the plate.

Free and reduced meals are available for needy youngsters. Information on the Free & Reduced Program is sent home at the beginning of the school year.

Children are permitted to bring a packed lunch if they wish. No carbonated drinks or glass containers are permitted.

Good table manners are an important part of the cafeteria program. Please review these with your child.
