Summer School Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I receive a school issued computer?

All students are required to turn in their school issued computer.  If you are taking a summer class, you can arrange with the help desk to have your computer returned to you during the summer session.  Students must contact the Lower Dauphin help desk directly to make these arrangements (717-566-5392) OR email helpdesk@ldsd.org

Will late applications be accepted?

No. Summer school applications will not be accepted after June 20, 2024. Advanced credit students can start between June 1 and June 9, 2024 - IF application is received by Friday, May 24, 2024,  NO applications received after June 20, 2024 will be processed. This includes students who want to take a class for advanced credit.

How many classes can I take during the summer session?

It is recommended to take one or two classes during the summer session.  Student success rate drops significantly when trying to complete 3 or more classes during the summer session.

Do I have to come in to school to work on my lessons?

High school students do NOT have to come in to school to work on their lessons.  They can work from home and can create their own schedule for accessing their class information. Students taking an at home CAOLA class MUST HAVE RELIABLE INTERNET SERVICE.

Middle school students are required to report to the Middle school building.  Please contact your Middle School guidance counselor for more information.

Is tutoring available?

Yes.  Students have access to their online teachers throughout the summer session.  All tutoring sessions are set up ONLINE by communicating with their online teacher.

Are Honors or AP courses offered during the summer session?

No.

Will I receive time AFTER the due date to work on my classes?

No.  All class work needs to be completed by August 9, 2024, 5 pm.  Grades will be due the following week.  Any class not completed will be averaged using a non-running total (meaning zero will be factored in for all lessons not completed for a class part).

How much do the classes cost?

This information can be found in the cover letter that accompanied your summer school application.  If the class is offered in condensed form (credit recovery) the cost is $200 per class.

If the class is not offered in condensed form (credit recovery) the cost is $150 per part.  For example, if a class has four parts, the total cost would be $600 under this format.
