Synopsis of Curriculum

Careers – The connection between school and work is the main emphasis in this course.  Students are required to develop a resume and learn about the interview process, as well as target career interests through a computer software program (Naviance – Family Connections).  Once students select a career, they will participate in a job shadowing/interviewing project that includes a written paper, interview questions, and an oral presentation.  Emphasis will also be placed on steps necessary to be successful, such as setting goals, developing good work habits, and communicating effectively.

Personal Finance – Topics covered in this course will include savings, banking, credit cards, credit scores, financing, higher education, renting vs owning, taxes and insurance, consumer fraud, and investment.  Students will earn a Financial Literacy Certificate upon completion of an on-line literacy program.
