 Synopsis of Curriculum

This course is designed for students who perform significantly below grade level based on reading screener scores (or other reading assessments) and/or academic performance. Students must be recommended by middle school or high school staff and must include approval from the reading specialist. The course focuses on developing or improving decoding/word attack skills and vocabulary development as well as active reading strategies that might improve overall comprehension skills. Class size is limited. Priority is given to students who read significantly below grade level. Direct, explicit teacher-developed instruction is used.
