Reading Strategies II

This course is designed for students who perform significantly below grade level based on reading screener scores (or other reading assessments) and/or academic performance. Students must be recommended by high school staff and must include approval from the reading specialist. The course focuses on developing reading skills in relation to transitional needs and improving functional reading skills that are necessary upon graduation. Class size is limited. Priority is given to students who read significantly below grade level. Direct, explicit teacher-developed instruction is used.​

Unit 1 Early American Literature (1600-1840)

Unit 2 Evolving American Voice (1820-1910)

Unit 3 Society vs. Individuality (American Identity woven throughout)

Unit 4 Progress vs. Disillusionment, Discontent/Defiance (American Identity woven throughout)
