PA Climate Survey
The Lower Dauphin School District is participating in the PA Climate Survey as part of its Safe and Supportive Schools Initiative as outlined in the District’s Comprehensive Plan. The PA Climate Survey was developed as a tool to assist school districts within the Commonwealth in measuring the “climate” within their schools.
School climate refers to the quality and character of school life and is based on patterns of students’, parents’ and school personnel’s experience of school life.” (From the Center for Social and Emotional Education/CSEE, Columbia Univ.) School Climate includes the total of the attitudes and behaviors elicited by:
- school policies, practices, and physical environment;
- staff interactions with peers and students;
- opportunities for student engagement and leadership; and,
- beliefs and attitudes students bring to the school from their families and the community.
School Climate is predictive of students’ ability to learn and develop in healthy ways. When school climate is positive, school connectedness is strong. Students are more ready to function optimally and focus in the classroom when they feel both psychologically and physically safe, valued and respected for their ideas and opinions.
During the weeks of May 20-24 and May 28-31, 2024, we will be asking third grade through twelfth grade students, school staff and parents to respond to the PA Climate Survey. The results of the survey will then be used for planning purposes to determine what needs the district has in order to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all of our students. Parents, if you would like to view a sample of the PA Climate Survey prior to your child participating, please click here.
If a parent or caregiver does NOT want their child to participate in the survey, please print and send the following document to your child's school or to Dr. Winner at the email below. Parent Opt-Out Form
