8th Grade American History
Welcome to 8th Grade American History class. My name is Mr. Derek Shaffer and I am looking forward to teaching you about our country's past. This will be my 22nd year teaching at Lower Dauphin. I spent my first year teaching 1st Grade at South Hanover Elementary. Then, I moved to 5th Grade at South Hanover for three years before moving to the Middle School. This will be my 18th year teaching 8th Grade American History. I graduated from York College and hold my Masters Degree as well. My wife teaches 2nd Grade at Nye Elementary. I have a stepson ,Brady, who is a junior in college at DeSales University. We also have three daughters here at Lower Dauphin: Alexa (Sophomore), Brynn (Freshman), and Kenzie (5th Grade at Nye). They are all very active in sports and my wife and I spend the majority of our time attending their events.
Course Description for 8th Grade American History class include:
The students will take a voyage through the history of our country, beginning with the first inhabitants of America. We will continue through the social, political, economic, and military development of our country. The course will focus on some of the great leaders who have been influential while developing the greatest nation in the world. My goal is to make each student realize that they are an instrumental part of developing our country in the future and that their ancestors have played an important role in developing our country in the past. The course will conclude with the Civil War.
