Life Skills Support
The Lower Dauphin Life Skills program provides a continuum between the middle and high school levels. Activities and events involving both programs provide experiences that aide in transition from middle to high school. A variety of curriculum-based instruction is offered that engages students in meaningful pre-vocational, vocational and daily living activities tailored to individual needs. At the high school level, this includes the use of a real-life apartment setting. From middle school aged students through age twenty-one, math and reading instruction is tailored specifically to each student’s skills set. Instructional aides and personal care assistants help facilitate teacher-led activities, thereby providing pertinent direct instruction. Instruction of transition skills is enhanced through community based instruction. Planned interaction with regular education peers provides avenues for developing social skills.
