Home Education Services
Under state law, the Lower Dauphin School District is required to allow parents or guardians to homeschool their children as an option for compulsory school attendance. Compulsory school age in Pennsylvania is 6 years old.
The district endeavors to work with families to provide the best possible education for their children. The district ensures that all the state requirements are met at the start of each school year. At the end of the year, the district reviews the student's certified homeschool evaluation to ensure that the state's required standards are met.
Currently, there are 100-plus students being homeschooled in Lower Dauphin.
At the beginning of the year, an affidavit and objectives must be submitted to the district by August 1st.
End of Year Evaluations must be submitted to the district by June 30th of each year.
If your family moves during the school year, please inform the district of your new address and school district, so that we can forward your homeschool records to the new school district.
Step to register with the district for homeschooling:
1. Call the district on 717-566-5360 to provide basic information on your child so that we know that your child is being educated at home.
2. Complete and return the forms that will be emailed to your email address.
3. Provide a signed and notatized affidavit to homeschool (must be completed each school year).
4. Educational objectives for each student being homeschooled (must be completed each school year for each student).
5. Immunization record for each student.
