Free Meal Information

Dear Lower Dauphin families:

We are pleased to inform you that Lower Dauphin School District will be participating in a federal program to enable ALL enrolled students to receive a free nutritional breakfast and lunch each school day.

This program, called Seamless Summer Option, was included in waivers issued by the USDA in April 2021 to allow all students, regardless of need, to receive free breakfast and lunch during the school year.

Please note that the free option only applies to the Class A breakfast and lunch on the menu. A la carte items or the purchase of a second meal will be charged at regular prices.

No further action is required of you to obtain these benefits. However, if you qualify, we still encourage you to complete a free and reduced meal application for a number of reasons:

  • Help your family receive the Commonwealth funding through the p-EBT benefits
  • Help your family receive free internet access
  • Help the District receive federal funding
  • Your status will continue 30 days into the 2022-23 school year

The Free and Reduced Meal online application for the 2021-22 school year is available at and you should have received one from your child’s school. If you have already received notification of Direct Certification for the 2021-22 school year, you do not need to apply again.

Please note that your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without paying a fee or submitting an application.

If we can be of any further assistance, please contact your Child's School office.

Free Lunch Program FAQs

All Students are entitled to one Free Breakfast and one Free Lunch per day. All our lunch options come with a Grain, Protein, Vegetable, Fruit and Milk. At the Elementary, Middle School and High School, all meals will contain those components.

A Type A lunch is any hot or cold lunch that includes (Grains, Protein, Fruit, Vegetable and Milk). All of our lunches are Type A at the elementary level and also at the secondary schools. We have eliminated combo meals at the high school to not cause any confusion to the students. So all meals are Type A and FREE!

We will still offer a la carte snack items and additional beverages for purchase as we have in the past. Students that chose to purchase a la carte should have money on account.

At the Middle School and High School we have the following meal service lines:

  • Pizza Line
  • Deli Line
  • Grilled Sandwich Line
  • Main Line
  • Grab and Go Salad, Sandwich and Fruit Parfait Line

All meal lines will contain the Free meal

If students want a second meal which some do at the High School level they will need to purchase that meal a la carte.
