Class of 2021

February 4, 2021

Dear families of the Class of 2021,

Lower Dauphin High School’s commencement ceremony is the culmination of a 13-year educational journey which began for most of you in kindergarten and will end in June. I am sure that many of you are anxiously waiting to hear what the high school’s plans are for commencement activities.

The unpredictable nature of COVID-19 and the potential for sudden shifts in guidance from the state Department of Health and Department of Education makes planning such a large-scale event very difficult. At this time it is simply too early to determine what option will be best to celebrate our seniors and keep our community as safe and healthy as possible.

Please know that we are planning for multiple scenarios, ranging from in-person ceremonies (with appropriate mitigation measures in place) to an entirely virtual celebration. We are considering multiple venues to host the ceremony to provide the maximum flexibility in our planning.

You also might be wondering about other senior rights of passage like spring sports and concerts, the musical and play, Mini-THON, prom, and senior awards night. Please know that we are working hard to find a way for these events to be held in some fashion to allow our seniors a memorable experience.

I feel I can speak for the entire high school faculty and staff when I tell you that we have enjoyed having your seniors in our building and we are excited about their next steps as they leave our hallways and embark on the rest of their lives. Thank you for sharing them with us for the past four years.

It is our pledge to communicate frequently and in a meaningful way with our senior families as we move through this spring and we are able to better predict what the state’s guidelines will allow us to do.

I am proud of our seniors and the grace with which they have overcome many difficult obstacles on their path to graduation and I am sure they will continue to make us proud in the future. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through the school office or via email at jhanula@ldsd.org.

With Falcon Pride,

Justin M. Hanula,

Principal
